| Sept | 6 | I make e-mail call for votes on consulting site/topic |
| Sept | 13 | Announced decision to go with BCDS |
| Sept | 15 | I call for listserv discussion of dining services |
| Oct | 1 | Lenny asks for questions to ask Pat Bando, for a thursday meeting with team leaders. " The group leaders are trying to meet the head of dining services by thursday afternoon, hopefully she'll be available, but she hasn't gotten back to me yet. her office did, but said they were unable to schedule the appointment for her. please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! send questions you may want us to ask her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is important, she is a busy person and we can't keep bothering her e-mail them to me or one of yor other group leaders as well as in the forum for discussion." |
| Oct | 5 | Lenny reports that some team leaders met with Bando on friday. Doesnt say what talked about |
| Oct | 21 | Heather G. asks whats happening on the class project |
| Oct | 30 | Lenny calls for questions for survey from teams (previously agreed upon at team leader meeting); accidentally refers to class project as "my project" "hey...please send ideas and questions you'd like to ask students on campus in regards to the topic: WHY DON'T YOU WANT TO WORK FOR DINING SERVICES.................it is important for my project guys..........group EXCEL IS THE ONLY GROUP WHO CARED TO......GET ON THE BALL PEOPLE" |
| Oct | 30 | Heather
D. responds with suggestions, and adds: "Right now I have just been waiting for the group leaders who met with Pat Bando to tell us what was going on. We really need to develop some sort of format for how we are attacking this project, and if there is already one established, everyone needs to know what that is. Maybe we should delegate a few minutes of class time to discuss what is going on (or rather what isn't but should be). Otherwise we will have to rely on our group leaders to meet and have them be like department heads for the organization relaying information to each of the groups. if anyone else has any ideas, this is something that we should discuss and the listserv is a good place to do that because everyone can be heard." |
| Oct | 30 | Lenny responds with "thank you for the imput heather,,,,,,,i appreciate it" |
| Oct | 30 | Nhatha
responds with report of fusion brainstorming on bcds,
including: - "cafe nights" instead of point drives - a class in Culinary Arts whose students would intern at BCDS -incentives like getting first shot at football tickets "The 2 main reasons why students don't want to work for BCDS is 1)the pay is bad 2)it is perceived as being an "uncool" place to work. Thus, BCDS needs to change its drabby image and make it funner environment to work. " "Also, BCDS should perhaps put more of a recruiting effort towards the incoming freshmen who really don't know the culture of BC yet, and try to trick them into working for BCDS by making it look glamorous. " [NOTE: many of these items were later used in the final presentation, but not credited to FUSION] |
| Oct | 30 | Heather D. debates the culinary arts suggestion, and questions the image problem. She also says there are some financial incentives that are really good. She supports the talking to freshman idea. |
| Oct | 30 | Margot gives reasons why she would not want to work for bcds (hairnets, pay, friends make fun) |
| Oct | 30 | Heather D. rejects these reasons |
| Oct | 31 | Lenny apologizes for calling it "my project" |
| Oct | 31 | Nhatha suggests brainstorming within groups, and working out plan of action before creating questionnaire |
| Oct | 31 | Heather D counters but also echos Nhatha, saying " I am confused as to where we are trying to go from the beginning with our project." |
| Nov | 1 | Lenny
sharply criticizes Nhatha in a personal way, saying: "Excuse me, but Dinh, it seems like talking to you is like talking to a wall, it goes in one ear and out the other...If Dinh showed up to the meeting on time on Friday or e-mailed me a response stating she couldn't like the other group members did, maybe she would have understood the point of everything we are doing. I am just sick of Dinh criticising what we are doing even though both Pat Bando and Prof. Borgatti both felt that filling the needs of student employment to dining services is a genuine need of dining services and a valuable project. Prof. Borgatti said it was more than enough to pinpoint that problem, and Pat Bando also said that It was the Problem she most wanted solved, actually, it was the only problem she kept mentioning throughout our meeting on a consistent basis." Lenny also says "As far as student response.....I have at various times sent out e-mails for suggestions, and less than 10% of the class has cared to answer. You are all adults and understand that we are all going to be graded significally on this, if you don't want to contribute to the project......don't whine about it later, because the questions i've sent out are the biggest way you could contribute at this point in time." |
| Nov | 3 | Monica announces that team leaders met last fri and allocated dining halls to groups. She adds: "On Wed. and Thrus. each group must walk around from table to table and hand out the surveys. Each group must also interview 3 employees and the manager of the dining facility which they are covering. The survey will hopefully be copied for Tuesday's class. If you have any questions, contact your team leader." |
| Nov | 3 | Nhatha responds to Lenny, saying he should have said those things directly to her on friday, and says again "But what ARE our plans? That's what people want to know, and that's the first thing that has to be addressed." She also says: "And in reply to your discomfort with my criticisms, I'm sorry you feel annoyed Lenny, but get used to it. If nobody argued and nobody criticized, we would not be able to figure out the most efficient and optimum way to do things. People need to communicate open and honestly to avoid future mistakes and problems." She calls for interviewing BCDS managers, and for having two representatives of each team at the project meetings. |
| Nov | 4 | Ryan thanks the group leaders for their work "It seems like the class has a strong group of people on the front lines." |
| Nov | 10 | Monique requests update on class project |
| Nov | 10 | Lenny writes that he has good news on the class project and everyone is about to get involved. |
| Nov | 12 | Phil says he interviewed some people who were bored by the survey. Phil wonders if the questions could be improved before they go out on Thursday. |
| Nov | 12 | Mike Moore seconds Phil, and says that "Open your eyes leaders! This project is about OB. It is about how can we organize an entire class to come together in a combined effort to produce a well thought out, well planned, well researched and coherent presentation. So far our class has failed at all of these aspects. Again- I take part of the blame for trusting the group leaders to take care of the Mgmt. of this project. " |
| Nov | 12 | Barry says: (1) strong thanks to Lenny for all the initiative and work; (2) "i was absolutely speechless in class yesterday when people who have done NOTHING AT ALL for this project thought it would be constructive to basically tell Lenny that his ideas and questionnaire >sucked..."; (3) "the group >leaders are not solely responsible for coordinating the project. ... OTHER PEOPLE HAVE BEEN ASKED TO >JOIN IN SEVERAL TIMES.. but NO ONE that I know of has stepped >forward...", (4) "it's a good thing that this is a college project and not a real world >job... because the way people have marketed themselves to assist in >this project's completion has been pathetic... and if i were the >boss, i'd be looking for new employees..." |
| Nov | 12 | Lenny responds to Mike: "mike, that's funny, seeing that there was at least 3 different occasions on the listserv that i asked for input into direction and questions......without the questions we wouldn't have had any direction........you had you chance for input in the beginning, but you didn't feel like taking the initiative when it was asked of you.............so i don't wanna hear it now" |
| Nov | 12 | Barry and Mike go back and forth trading insults |
| Nov | 12 | Julie supports Barry |
| Nov | 12 | Heather G. says "We all know that things have not been perfect with the class project, but we cannot do anything about > it now. Instead of pointing fingers at people why > doesn't everyone just accept what has happened, or > not happened, and work at making the best out of > the situation. |
| Nov | 12 | Monique agrees with Heather. Also says "Also, I think that this can be a lesson in also being more open minded to the opinions of others. I don't know exactly what has been happening in the group leaders meetings, but it seems as if Nhanta(sorry if I spelled it wrong) had some good suggestions worth thinking about. Were these suggestions mentioned in the meetings and just ignored and not given a second thought? Let me know. If they were mentioned I really think people need to let down their guard of personal feelings toward one another and RESPECT each other in a group setting and not just shot down another person's ideas. Again, I am not sure of what exactly went on in the group leader meetings but if this did happen, take the situation in and learn from it!" |
| Nov | 12 | Patrick Nguyen supports Mike. |
| Nov | 13 | Mark W. "Heather is right. i don't think it is fair for anyone in the class to critisize the project. " |
| Nov | 13 | Mark responds to Monique: "i don't think it is a matter of not being open to suggestions, it is a matter of being pressed for time. in the group leader meetings we never really accomplished all that much. pretty soon we were faced with a big dead line. the reason why it is impossible to take in all of these suggestions is because of our late start. i agree, i am sure there are a lot of good ideas out there, but it isn't practical at this point in time." |
| Nov | 13 | Euse says " THE FACT IS that the group leaders did the best they could with the small amount of time that we had. The question was open on the listserv for input into the questionnaire, and we received few responses. " |
| Nov | 13 | Mike M responds to Euse "Come on now Mita- let's not jump on the band wagon. Let's think for ourselves this time ok. The fact is that the only people who were on high horses were those who took it upon themselves to use their own ideas while neglecting other's. I'm glad someone stepped up to take control of this project but I'm not glad at the job I've seen so far. " |
| Nov | 13 | Monique
responds to Euse "I appreciate what Lenny has done
so far, but I will not suppress my constructive
criticism. Constructive criticism is not meant to hurt
anyone but help oneself improve on other tasks to produce
better results.READ and UNDERSTAND that my constructive
criticism was not a personal attack on Lenny or any other
group leaders." she also says: "I am coming out of this project a smarter person on more constructive ways to handle projects of this magnitude and one of things that I've learned is not to make my personal feelings about a person, blind me from seeing the usefulness of their ideas, which is what I PERSONALLY (uderstand what this word means, it is my perspective on what I saw and even if it is not exactly what happened, it is a constructive thought I have gained and will remember for the future) think happened with Nhatha and SOME (this word means not all) of the other group leaders. |
| Nov | 13 | Nhatha thanks Monique, saying "I'm glad someone appreciated my efforts to try to make this class project a collaborative effort. It just seems like many of the group leaders, especially the males, have a god-like superiority complex. Many of my early on suggestions for more organization and involvment from the rest of the class were either ignored or brushed off by a few of the more dominant group leaders. This is because they wanted to direct and have absolute control of the class project. Each person thought that he was hot shit, so my criticisms didn't matter. People thought the group leaders had everything in control, but as you now know, that was not the case. They dug us into this big hole, and now we have to bail ourselves out. I just don't understand why men, in this case I mean boys, feel so threatened by voicive females who show any signs of intelligence. " |
| Nov | 13 | Barry responds to many messages, and identifies criticizers with people who are not involved: "I am very glad that we have this forum... just keep posting your 'constructive criticisms' in here... all the way up until next friday, and after if you like... if you want to actually get involved at any time and DO something for the project, feel free, you are always welcome..." |
| Nov | 13 | Monique tells Barry he is not good at reading, and makes suggestions for the analysis, like having different groups analyze data from different kinds of respondents (managers, students, etc.) |
| Nov | 14 | Sam says "We as class members and not formal group leaders did not ask about what was going on in the class project, and the group leaders did not keep us updated as to what was developing with the project. Face it: EACH OF US, AS A GROUP, SCREWED UP.. NOW LET'S STOP BITCHING AND GET TO WORK ON IT. We're not gaining any time by complaining." |
| Nov | 14 | Sam offers to help Josh with the PowerPoint presentation |
| Nov | 14 | Mike M. responds sarcastically to Barry: "Look at Barry getting all excited. You made a mistake and got critiqued for it and now you just want to write the listserv and complain. Poor Barry- He worked so so hard and now someone is critiquing him. Toughen up pal! that's what it takes to make it in the "real world." You should be embarassed of yourself." |
| Nov | 14 | Barry
sends omnibus response: To monique he says "i'm assuming you didn't actually participate in the collection of these surveys, because they were separated by non-employee and current/former employee groupings already... if you wanted to create a manager questionnaire of some kind and collect data on that, i'm sure it would be VERY beneficial to the project..." To Mike M. he says: "I thought I was alone in this, but after talking with 7, yes 7, other class members from three different groups who also did not know, i ask you all... honestly... who the hell is Mike Moore?" He thanks everyone who will be working on the analysis this weekend. And thanks sam for volunteering to help Josh. |
| Nov | 14 | Allison puts down Nhatha "maybe people would listen to you a little more if you tried to be a little less abrasive in your interpersonal communication skills. Despite what you think, you are not always right." and ends with "Now, with that said, everyone SHUT UP and do something for the project!!! " |
| Nov | 15 | Terrence defends Nhatha "so you basically think women should be nice, suboordinate, quiet, reticent individuals? I think you need to analyze yourself. " |
| Nov | 16 | Ryan says to Mark "You have a good point that everyone should get involved but many in the class are nut fully aware what is going on with the project. Group leaders are much more in touch with the project because they have been working on it for some time now. There needs to be some mandatory meetings or something and someone had to dewsignate jobs not ask for volunteers. This project, it seems, has been very unorganized." |
| Nov | 16 | Josh M attacks Nhatha "Excuse me bitch, but we were also at all of the meetings. Therefore we knew what was going on and what was expected of us. This had nothing to do with any god-like superiority complexes or the fact that some of us are males. As a matter of fact Monica has been a big contributor so there goes that argument!! Maybe its more because of the fact that act all high and mighty around us. We are very smart people too otherwise we wouldn't be at BC so get off your high horse and stop being so fucking condescending." |
| Nov | 16 | Josh
M. tells Sam that no help is needed on the PP
presentation: "Sam- I think we have that part covered. I don't think this has been brought up yet in class butI'm going to do a powerpoint demonstration with the help of Heather and then we are going to make up some slides as well. Thanks for the input and for not blaming the leaders for this whole project." |
| Nov | 16 | After reading emails that seem to let Sam help, Josh says: "Sam- Sorry but its been awhile since I've been on the listserv and I didn't read all my messages before I responded. It would be great if you could help me with the powerpoint. I'll be doing it as soon as we have a more concrete presentation put together." |
| Nov | 17 | Allison responds to Terrence, saying " Not quite, buddy! I just know that the way that a person presents themselves has a lot to do with how receptive others are to them. Have you learned anything in O.B? Plus, I think I am obviously not afraid to voice my opinion," |
| Nov | 17 | Lenny
long message. First is: "I've been working on this
project for over a month, even though it seems like it's
been only these past few weeks, with other group leaders.
I have other commitments beside this class, and i'd be
willing to bet, more commitments than most individuals in
this class, but there comes a time when people have to
sacrifice, and i have done more, way more than my share
for this class. When i posed questions to people on the
listserv, nobody took them seriously, and the listserv
was the only means for us to communicate because this
project really shouldn't have to cut into CLASS TIME. I
don't remember anyone saying lets get on the ball with
this too many times. The people with the criticsms have
no right to be pointing fingers, everyone had ample
opportunity to make a point. If you have suggestions,
keep sending them, if you are going to be a whinning
little baby who is going to sit back and cry like a bitch
" You are a smart girl, but that's where it ends. You have no inter-personal skills. You are egotistical. The leaders of the groups came together and decided on a course of action, and in every political forum, majority rules, especially when you are the only one with the difference. NOT FAIR? so why didn't you go out and prove your "theories" and present them to us? No one can argue with hard facts, but you continue to exemplify to me and your classmates how immature you are in dealing in a GROUP setting. You have been the most uncooperative person i've EVER met. I listened to all your suggestions, but you always cut me off in mid-sentence. You show up late to group meetings, then expect to come in and change everything we sat around and talked about for an hour???? WHO ARE YOU TO DO THAT? Meanwhile, on sunday night, when it was put on notice that there was an important meeting to go through all the information, everygroup was at least represented, again, W/O any members from fusion, or their so-called leader who feels that what she has to say is beyond the understanding capabilities of any male in the class. you are the only one in the class that feels they are better thatn anyone. there are no favorites, and i'd like to thank monique, heather, allison, josh, laura and the others for coming and contributing. we made good progress, and i would also like to thank the rest of the class for being whinners without ever contributing.....GROW UP PEOPLE |
| Nov | 17 | Sue apologizes for being unavailable over the weekend and says: "Thank > you so much to everyone especially Lenny who has taken it upon > himself to save our asses in this project. I know that we all have > a shit load of work to do, I'm going through hell until Wednesday > at 10:50 when I am finished flunking yet another finance exam, but > I am willing to do whatever it takes to prove that procrastinating > can pay off. I know that I have been silent up until now, but so > have most of the rest of us." |
| Nov | 17 | Lenny responds immediately with a thankfest: "WE ALL APPRECIATE ALL YOUR EFFORT AS WELL AND THE FACT THAT YOU ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT THE PROJECT. THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN WORKING VERY HARD THIS WEEKEND, AND I WOULD JUST LIKE TO THANK THEM AS WELL.....ALL I DID WAS TRY TO GET THIS THING STARTED, IT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN THE BEST WAY, BUT IT WAS A DIRECTION. THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT PICKED UP A LOT OF THE SLACK THIS WEEKEND FOR THIS PROJECT. THANX AGAIN FOR GETTING THIS ALL ROLLING PEOPLE, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE " |
| Nov | 17 | Monica attacks Nhatha: "I have kept my mouth shut on you attacking the class project for quite a while, but now I think you've stepped way out of line. I find it very hard to believe that you have the nerve to come onto the listserve and attack the male group leaders, or as you called them the "boys." ...And another thing, don't even think of pulling this story that the male group leaders have this "god-like superiority" because I, as a FEMALE group leader, have not witnessed any such thing, and I think that you are the one with this god-like ego problem, and you know what, GET OVER IT because you're not. " |
| Nov | 17 | Lenny thanks Monica for her support. |
| Nov | 17 | Barry gives info and general criticism of criticisers: ".............MONDAY, 8pm, ADDIE'S.........be there everybody!!!!! (PS- 2 n e 1 who criticizes, you have missed so many class project meetings that your listserv remarks are in serious danger of becoming completely irrelevant...better show up 2nite 2 get some fresh material to bitch about or you'll run the risk of looking even DUMBER!!! ) ........Barry" |
| Nov | 17 | Nhatha announces that she has withdrawn from the project: "if you were wondering why hasn't the troublesome group leader, Nhatha, been attending the meetings, I unofficially resigned early last week from my post as Fusion group representative for the class consulting project and left it to the individual members to be involved as much or little as they wanted." She ends with: "Also, I've personally benefited greatly from this project as I have realized my own mistakes as well as the mistakes of others. For all those who were involved, it appears that good progress was made over the weekend. I hope that your personal time and effort is positively justified and the presentation is a success." |
| Nov | 18 | Mark
reports that "i just wanted to report that i think
the class project is moving along quite nicely." And
"one more thing i want to add, and i am not trying
to bash anyone, but we have not really received much help
from the majority of the class. i think the people that
do take the time out of their bussy days to help out
should be recognized. i also do not appreciate it when
people say to me, "well you never told me there was
a meeting," or, "no one keeps me
informed." first of all, the listserve is full of
imformation regarding meeting times and plans along with
several anouncements have been made in class. secondly,
it is everyone's responsibility to get involve. and to
borgati's point about how this class is about getting
people to work together, like an organization; some of
our classmates would have been fired a long time ago. the
days of riding on people's coat tails are over. i think
our teacher has to take some kind of a stand against this
attitude." (Note first use of borgatti without honorific) |
| Nov | 18 | Lenny puts rough draft of paper on email, after I prompt him. |
| Nov | 18 | Ryan praises Monica for putting down Nhatha: "Second, what in the heck got into you Monica. I've never seen a outburst like that out of your mouth ever! She's got a dark side ladies and gentlemen. I better watch my step around you when we go out from now on. Also, a special thanks to all group leaders who have been working so hard on this project. I just read the rough draft and found it to be much better than I expected. You guys have really been putting in the time. The power point presentation also sounds excellent to accompany our facts and figures. If the 4 who were up in front of the class today are the one's who are speaking I think we have made a good decision. It is a good mix of girls and guys and those who I believe are most knowledgeable about the project." |
| Nov | 18 | I send some info on the presentations, plus some detailed criticisms |
| Nov | 18 | Phil praises leaders work, and Monicas put down of Nhatha: "Can you feel the love in the air? It is so great to see everyone getting along. I still cannot believe all the bickering and complaining that is going on in the class. All I know is, I read the rough draft and it looks great. I really wanted to awknowledge the fact that although I felt that the survey was a little weak, all the group leaders have done an excellent job with the project. Wow, something constructive from me. Bet I surprised all of you. Monica, it is great to see someone standing up to Nhata and giving her a new sense of reality. I feel like our whole class should be on Geraldo or something. I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. Even you Nhata" |
| Nov | 19 | Heather G. asks for updated copy of presentation so she can look over it in her spare time |
| Nov | 19 | Lenny sends it back with instructions to look it over and report problems |
| Nov | 19 | Mark announces progress: "i must say that we took another huge step last night in completing the class project. we looked over borgati's advice and fixed up the outline. i personally think it flows very well and i think that we have a good chance of scoring high on fri. " |
| Nov | 19 | Heather D sends compliments and reminder about missing data: "Lenny and the others that worked on this- I think it looks pretty good. One thing, did we ever get the stats on how many applications and whatever else we were going to add? Who was going to call on that? I hope it wasn't me. Otherwise, I think we've done a good job of pulling it all together considering the late start. Great job guys!!" |
| Nov | 19 | Laura points out major error in the interpretation of the stats. |
| Nov | 19 | Julie reports on interview with beth burn |
| Nov | 19 | Bob Airasian "i would like to give a quick thank you to lenny, mark, monica, heather d., heather g., josh (not you stello), and barry who have taken this project under thier wings. thanks again, bob." |
| Nov | 19 | Laura resends message with improvements: |
| Nov | 19 | Lenny "thanx for the 11th hour work laura........hey sam, see what you can do with those numbers" |
| Nov | 20 | Nhatha
long message: "Overall, very impressive. I don't think that you guys will have a problem with the presentation aspect of the consulting project, although you might get a little tripped up ... during Q & A. " "Are you presenting anything to Pat Brando that she didn't know before? "When talking about student incentives, do you know what incentives they offer already? How pleased are students with those incentives? What new incentives are you suggesting." many specific suggestions for presentation style |
| Nov | 20 | From me: Good luck on presentation |
| Nov | 20 | Heather D reacts to Nhathas comments: f"I think your suggestions are valid, but at this point it is very much too late to be making suggestions well-knowing that the presentation is already prepared and there is no time to incorporate more data. In fact, I am rather insulted that you would even think of bringing up any faults in the project, considering the position that you took in the project. In my opinion, when you "resigned" you took yourself out of the project and quite frankly, anything that you suggest from that point on falls on many deaf ears. Why is it that the people who worked their asses off to make something out of the project should hear it from someone who took a decidedly negative approach to doing any work at all? The leaders of this presentation deserve your thanks for doing the project despite all of your negative feedback. Maybe you can forfeit your 10% and it won't affect your "godly" status, and you can kiss ass all you want and still get your precious A, but in terms of what you got out of the project it was a big goose egg (rotten at that). |
| Nov | 20 | Monique
sends last minute comments: "First of all I would like to wish our presentors the best of luck, I think you guys ( and women) will do great. You make a good combination and I really mean this. I know how you feel when you work very hard on a project and at the end (or near to the end) you hear criticism because I'm on programming for ALC (AHANA Leadership Council) and I have experienced the same thing. I can remember people saying "oh, overall it was a success BUT..." and the criticisms would just flow. I got really PISSED OFF because many don't know the shit our staff goes through to make our yearly programs a success. However, as I stand outside the core of this project and look at what we have done up to this point with the little time we had ( which would have been about the same quality of work even if we started a week eariler), I may think of little criticisms to make. But I want you to know that in no way were these meant to piss you off. In actuality, what was going through my head was "Oh, this is real GOOD, but maybe this would make it even better, and maybe they can work on this more if they have the time." And what largely drove mYself and maybe others to make little criticisms ( which I tried to put in the nicest terms possible because I know the frustration of putting together something this big and also handeling the responsibilities of being a student) is the competition we are facing with the other OB classes to be the best presentors with solid content material. So I am speaking as someone who knows you will do your best, but the questions bought up in class, should not be taken as harsh or inconsiderate on your behalf ( if they were in the first place). In my opinion, the questions asked or the room for clarity suggested could be POSSIBLE QUESTIONS ASKED BY THE JUDGES, OR THINGS THEY MAY FIND UNCLEAR ( really think about this because some of these judges were consultants themselves, like borgatti, and if we find something a little confusing, they will probably pick it up too). So just consider it practice. I would say that you handled answering some of those well and proved your point on things such as with the point drive issue. Lenny, it was funny in class when you mentioned being so fustrated about two nights ago and thinking if anyone said anything wrong about the project how you were going to flip. I remember feeling the same way two weeks ago when I was in charge of a big program and just walking back and forth saying to myself "I'm never doing a fucking program again" because every one was getting on my fucking nerves asking me "where is this and where is that and when is this thing starting." I wanted to snap two fingers a make them disappear, but in the end the program was a total success and I believe you, Mark, Monica, and Heather will experence the same thing. In the end you learn so much and come out a stronger person, and realize you were able to improve our first draft to the excellent final draft due to the criticisms or suggestions you hated hearing in the beginning. I know that Prof. B made a lot of suggestions in the end and you used those to improve, but suppose some of the questions or suggestions in class Thursday which came from fellow classmates, came from him, would you have had the same reaction? Maybe you would have due to all the damn stress you were under but its just something to think about. I don't know where I'm trying to go with this long ass e-mail but one final point. Reflecting on this whole ordeal, I think I would volunteer myself to be incharge of putting on a program again, and when those criticisms come rushing in I'm going to hold my breath and take it all in and try to implement those suggestions for improvement. This is a hard thing to do and I know there will come a time when someone will PISS me off and I might flip ( because I realize no one is perfect) but I'll always try to hold in perspective the fact that they are trying to help me and are on my side because I've always felt this way about those who planned and did the majority of the project when making my suggestions. I hope my contribution helped. |
| Nov | 21 | Meghan responds to Heather Ds attack on Nhatha: "What is the point? People have criticized Nhatha enough. She seems to be willing to put some work into the project now, so there is no reason to be so cruel. She is right too in saying that she in effect motivated our class to get moving on the project together, even if it was out of spite or something. I think this listserv has many benefits, but I can't believe how far people have allowed themselves ( I am referring to your unwarranted comment) to go in terms of insulting others. Go back and read Nhatha's message when she resigned, it was very sincere, and expressed a real interest in our class project succeeding. Also, if your issue is her last minute comments, I believe you had a couple on Tuesday in class yourself." |
| Nov | 21 | Heather D explains why she did it: "My only reason for singling her out in her criticisms is that she sent a BOOK of things that were wrong on the last night of the project and many of the suggestions could have come out long before when all of the stuff was put over the web. When she sent so much at such a last minute I took it as a personal insult. Maybe I was wrong, but am as hard headed as many other people in this class and this is one point where I will not change my view easily." |
| Nov | 21 | Sue says: "Good luck today to everyone who is presenting. I hope most of you (Lenny and Monica) had well deserved fun and relaxation last night!!!!
